{belly} Irene :: Northern Virginia maternity photographer

It was three and a half years ago, just a few months after I had picked up my very first “real” camera (a Canon Rebel xsi) and back when I was doing a bunch of free portrait shoots for friends and trying to figure out if maybe I wanted to “do” something with photography. I asked my friend Irene if she would model for my first ever maternity shoot. I still didn’t really understand my camera, or light, and I *definitely* didn’t realize that a portrait session should have one editing style – not fifteen. See what I mean?

I’ll chalk it up to sheer luck that we got any decent images at all. 🙂

The years pass and Irene is now expecting her second baby girl. Once again I asked her to model for me – I wanted to shoot a 100% film practice session. I am thrilled with the results and this shoot has definitely given me the confidence to move forward with shooting film for my portrait sessions. Irene is as beautiful as ever, and well, I’m feeling pretty happy about how my photography has grown in the last three and a half years.
