The blog:
A place for telling stories -
mine and yours

Shooting the newborn session for a family I’ve seen through maternity, birth, and first48 sessions is always a bittersweet moment…it is a celebration of this new human, this new family…and also a little sad for me because it is the last time I will see them for this chapter of their story! I so loved traveling to Marco and Sharon’s bright and happy DC apartment to capture these first family snuggles. This, right here, is why I love lifestyle newborn photography – the light and happiness of the home they have created for their family is in each and every photo.

Lia’s absolutely beautiful newborn session was a perfect example of why I shoot “lifestyle” and not “posed” newborn sessions – this girl knew what she wanted and she did NOT want to be put down! It’s a good thing that my absolute favorite thing to capture is the connection a new mom and dad have […]

As I get back into my blogging routine coming off my maternity leave, I’m finally blogging a few sessions from last year that never made it up here. This one is one of my *absolute* favorite sessions, EVER, and it wasn’t even a “full” or “client” session. It was for my best friend Angel, last August […]

A woman becoming mother…it amazes me. Undoes me. Splits me into a million pieces and makes me whole. There’s nothing like it, and I swear I am one of the luckiest people on earth to be able to witness it again and again and again. I photographed Julie’s first birth 14 months ago. In the 22 hours I was there for that hard-fought victory, Julie became […]

I was looking back through my (apparently) neglected blog and realized that somehow, I had neglected to ever mention my own pregnancy and upcoming maternity leave. On October 11, Fiona Rose joined our family. We couldn’t be happier that she is here. I will be taking the rest of 2014 off from photographing births and […]

This birth holds a special place in my heart. It was the 20th birth I photographed, but even more importantly, it was my first repeat client. Karen was my second portfolio client back in 2012. Her first birth was a planned home birth turned hospital transfer after 24 hours of hard labor with not a […]

I’m so excited to start the new year with this tender newborn session. If you happened to see their maternity photos or watch their birth story, you know that little Maggie May was welcomed into an adoring family. There were lots of hugs and kisses and grins a mile wide to capture at this session. […]
